In the fall of 2008, I was awakened from a deep sleep with a cacophony of words tumbling in my mind and a clear voice telling me to sit at my computer and type. At first, I had no idea what was happening, all I knew was I had to listen to the voice. From 427 am to 730 am for the next 40 days, I wrote what became apparent was a real life novel…with a few twists and turns that were far more fantastical than real. What seemed to be my own life’s story was layered with spiritual encounters and metaphysical experiences, telling me that this wasn’t just a memoir, it was a roadmap to get me back to my life’s true purpose. After the 40 days were over my husband and I edited the book for the next year. Line by line we painstakingly debated over every word choice in what turned out to be an amazingly profound form of couples therapy. The words on the page challenged where we were in our marriage and life, which made us think a little harder about where we had been, and where we were going. The novel opens with Katie taking an inventory of her life. She had ‘it all’, a devoted husband, beautiful kids, a successful business of her own, fine art, luxury cars, jewelry and designer clothing, and the final piece, her dream home. So why wasn’t she happy? At 37 years old she found herself depressed and unsure of whether she even wanted to go on if this is all life had to offer. Just as I suffered in my own life, my main character Katie, limps through the life she spent so much effort to create, only to discover that it might be an insane illusion. This real life novel is my journey to find the peace, joy and love in my life again. For anyone wondering if the American Dream is all there is to this crazy thing called life… I invite you to follow Katie and Luke’s journey to finding their ‘Happily Ever After’ that is grounded in love not things. For 9 years my book was in a state of dormancy until the voice told me to publish it on January 1, 2017. This ‘real life’ novel is now available in e-book and paperback. My hope is it inspires you to find your life’s true purpose, as it did for me. ***Epiphany Edition

The Girl in the Glass House Cheryl Rioux 9781520266268 Books

This is a great book to curl up in a comfy chair and dive into head first. Didn't come up for air until I had read it cover to cover. I was mesmerized by the author's brave recounting of some of the most painful moments of her life. The book explores a loving, but troubled marriage of two high achieving people striving to make their dreams come true during the heady times of the Silicon Valley dot.com bonanza. In devastating detail, the author shows the emotional and physical toll of keeping up appearances at the expense of being true to yourself.

Katie's (the main character) sessions with her psychiatrist provide an intimate look into her childhood and her complicated relationships with her charismatic, bipolar (and deceased) father and her intense and protective husband. Her coma-induced "sessions" with her guardian angels provide some humorous moments, particularly the references to the Albert Brookes' film "Defending Your Life."

Readers will find it easy to relate to Katie and her determination to heal herself and her marriage. For those who may be going through a similar crisis, there is a great deal of valuable insight.

The Girl in the Glass House Cheryl Rioux 9781520266268 Books Reviews

I love everything about this book!! I sat down and read it within 2 days. This book is about a woman who hits the end of her materialistic climb and her wonderful and exciting journey back to her Spiritual SELF!! It is fiction, but I know that many people will relate to the struggle that the main character endures, and the questions that she poses about her choices, her life and her new Journey.

The Author has a wonderful way of writing which effortlessly details her surroundings that I found myself transported into that part of myself that knows that "anything is possible." I also found the story to be written in such a way that I felt right there with her!!! Cheering her on and understanding that anything can be changed or transformed.

The story is both a personal triumph that comes from realizing that you have taken a wrong turn in life, and then deciding that the path taken was wrong, working to change it, and using whatever help you can to get on the right path. The path toward the self. The movement toward a Spiritual Journey can be both fantasy and reality, it doesn't matter. The wisdom is still the same, and the realization that we are all amazing and triumphant beings is the core of this wonderful story.

Buy the book!! Read the book. You will love the Heart and the Soul of this wonderful Book!!!!
I just loved this very honest portrayal of a woman learning to overcome emotional hardship and mental health challenges by learning to love and accept herself for who she truly is. We can all learn from this poignant lesson. The character development is excellent and the writing flows easily allowing the reader to be fully absorbed.
This book took me on a magical journey through one woman's depths of despair to the heights of ecstasy. The Author writes with great authenticity about her pain, her search, her spiritual "weirdnesses" and her journey back to herself. The love of her family was palpable even though at times it wavered. I could feel what she was going through and, for me, that is the sign of a very good book. I was captivated from the beginning and could barely put the book down. If you've ever wondered what you're missing or why you feel funky, this book will lift you up. I appreciated that love wins in this book.
I loved this book and couldn't put it down, even reading late into the night and at the gym while riding a bike. In this time of uncertainty and turmoil, it gave me hope and a renewed recognition that I can choose how to react to life's challenges and can change direction at any moment. It reminded me that my thoughts, actions and outcomes are connected. If I'm unhappy with the results, it's time to go inside, reexamine what I want and forge ahead in alignment with what I know is best. As I closed the book on the last page I felt a spark ignite inside leading me to dream beyond what's possible and to remember that my work in the world as a feminist and activist is an essential ingredient in creating a better world for all humanity. "The Girl in the Glass House," provided the push I needed at the perfect moment to redirect my life following the death of my mother.
Rioux’s debut novel, The Girl in the Glass House, comes at the perfect time in our polarized society. As Katie, the main character, embarks on a journey with her therapist, Jesus, and her guardian angels, she is told, “the time has come for the masses to free themselves and live with more options than the current polar extremes. The change will come through small steps that lead towards the light”. With courage and vulnerability, Katie shatters her own façade of the American Dream and invites the reader on a journey as she discovers her destiny and life’s work, and takes small steps towards the light. Through Katie’s spiritual journey, the reader is inspired to find their own dream and to shatter their own personal façades. This is a must read!
This book is outstanding! I feel truly blessed to have read it and I think it is going to be life changing. This was a journey filled with miracles from start to finish. I fell in love with all the characters and had so many emotions flowing through me as I read. Definitely one of the best books I’ve read that shows you hope for the future.
